Welcome To Sam Corley Publishings

The story of Sam Corley Publishings began almost three years ago before I had even thought about starting a publishing company or thought of name for that matter. I am a pediatric, bilingual speech-language therapist by trade. To put it simply, I spend the majority of my days in therapy jumping from putting together Mr. Potato Head dolls to playing house to reading books. Reading books in therapy, I have found, offers just the right amount of structure and imagination in therapy.

The challenge I ran into is that for my unique clientele, I can’t simply read a book and expect for them to respond to questions, sequence events, or describe actions in pictures independently. I would have to completely adapt the book to fit their developmental language level. So, I would gather up all of the fan favorite children’s books, like The Very Hungry Caterpillar or The Cat In The Hat, and I would velcro picture symbols and sentence strips within the pages of the book to make it more engaging for my clients. As you can imagine, it became quite time consuming.

This got me to thinking: “Why wasn’t there a series of children’s books that were already adapted for those with language delays?”

So began the development of Sam Corley Publishings.
